Cow Hampshire Blog Celebrates 12 Years

It is amazing even for me to realize that I am celebrating this history blog’s 12th Anniversary (or Birthday or Creation Day) on March 16, 2018.  New Hampshire is a rich state–its residents make it so.  Their stories are varied and fascinating.  I have so many more people, places and events that I hope to have time to write about.

I also focus on New Hampshire women who have been left out of the history books.  If we don’t tell their stories, no one will tell ours. In the past year and a half, my primary work has been to research and document the heroes of World War I.  I hope I do their story’s justice, and shine a light on their faces, deeds and sacrifice.

In the past 12 years my blog name has not changed, though the general look and color scheme has been altered slightly (see an early view of how my blog looked in the screen shot at the top of this page).  I am deeply grateful to my readers, new and old, who visit and read.  Special thanks to everyone who has helped me research, or left a comment of support, a question, or a criticism.

I have detailed in the past what the “reader’s favorites” and most popular posts have been. My stories about odd deaths, ghosts, and unusual events seem to be the most popular topics, the natural result of my research into the rare and unusual stories of local history and people.

The most read top 5 stories on this blog are (in this order):
1. The Darker Side of Manchester NH’s Pine Island Park
2. The Ghost of Mount Washington Hotel, Bretton Woods NH
3. New Hampshire’s Native Americans: Hiding in Plain Sight
4. Manchester New Hampshire’s Restaurant Innovators: Richard “Dick” and Maurice “Mac” McDonald
5. New Hampshire’s Castles

Blogging (basically this means writing regularly scheduled articles on specific topics with the ability for readers to comment) is a wonderful way to connect your family genealogy, and local history stories with others. The blogging process is not dying out as some imply, but rather the news media sites now imitate this process.

If you are a genealogy or history blogger, and you have a FaceBook account, please join the Genealogy Bloggers group to share your creativity with other bloggers, obtain their feedback, and hopefully become a better writer in the process.
