The sweet face of Nettie Alberta Dimond looks out from the delicate, gem-sized tintype photograph. In her arms she holds a doll, probably one considered a China doll, with a glazed porcelain china head.  Unglazed dolls were called Parian dolls. Most China dolls had molded painted hair, as Nettie’s doll does.

Nettie was born in Manchester New Hampshire in 1864, and so the doll was probably made in the late 1860s. Nettie wears a hair ribbon and jewelry. Her hair has been softly curled. She has the look of a well nourished, well cared for child. She was, in fact, an only child. Her genealogy is outlined below.
