1. “Santa” is pronounced “SAN-ter.”

2. You use political campaign buttons–as Christmas ornaments.

3. Traditional holiday food includes pork pie, and anything you can put maple syrup on.

4. Your Christmas cards are purchased sales-tax free, and are hand-stamped with a  “Bethlehem” postmark.

5. The seven junk cars in the yard across the street almost look O.K. trimmed with twinkling lights.

6. Santa Claus sounds suspiciously like Fritz Wetherbee.

7. You can take an Inn to Inn Cookie Tour one night, and a sleigh ride the next.

When Dad would flood the driveway so we
could play hockey. Only in New Hampshire.

8. The most difficult part of planning for holiday parties is to find the right pair of snowboots to match your outfit.

9. Your holiday travel consists mostly of trips to the wood pile.

10. When you flood your driveway to make a hockey rink for your kids.

11. Some fool Santa-wannabe wakeboards on Baboosic Lake on Christmas Eve.

Victorian Christmas at Remick Museum – December 9, 2007

The Remick Museum will be holding an event on Sunday, December 9, 2007 from 1-4 PM that you will not want to miss. If this doesn’t help you get into the Christmas spirit, nothing will!

Come enjoy chocolate treats, quarter pounds, sugar cookies, country crafts, and a little history at the annual Victorian Christmas at the Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm and the Captain Enoch Remick House. Both houses will be beautifully decorated in Victorian style.

Sample chocolate treats, such as steamed chocolate pudding, black & gold marble cake, sweet vanilla hot chocolate, candied peel, chocolate nuts, and chocolate truffles. Taste the traditional holiday drink, Syllabub. In the Museum Visitor’s Center, try your hand at making country crafts, including corn husk angels, felted snowballs, and decorative gift tags. View exhibits on Christmas traditions, and see the living quarters of Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick, the country doctor who owned the property.

Take a horse-drawn wagon ride through the Joe Binsack Trail, offering spectacular views of Remick Farm.

The staff at the Captain Enoch Remick House will be baking sugar cookies; they will also have punch and ginger snaps. See Victorian era decorations, which include an antique toy collection.

While at Victorian Christmas, visit the newly expanded Remick Museum Shop stocked with American-made country gifts and toys, including Henderson Redware, earthenware pottery created from 19th century designs.

Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm is located at 58 Cleveland Hill Road,Tamworth,  and the Captain Enoch Remick House is located at 26 Great Hill Road, Tamworth. The event is free and open to the public; there are feees for craft-making, wagon rides, and some food items.
