New Hampshire Farmers Markets: A Great Date With Fresh Local Food

I know I am not alone to notice the local grocery stores are lacking in some produce. This is not a slam to the grocery stores, as I am sure they would love to sell us everything we need. However, these stores are under unique constraints these days. We do have a great alterative that gets us outdoors too — Farmers Markets. NHPR recently presented a great story about these markets opening up with strict new practices.

I’ve been promoting the local vore trend (eating local foods) for many years now. Not only do you benefit from eating fresh, but you support your local farmers and producers. Recent events have given eating local a huge boost.

We are blessed in New Hampshire with many farmers markets that carry fresh and local meat, fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, honey and maple syrup; jams and jellies, herbs; milk and other dairy products; snack foods; wines and beer, eggs, handmade products (such as baked goods, soaps, crafts); flowers, plants and herbs, to name a few. Some events throw in great music, though don’t look for samples this year (due to covid-19 precautions).

There are organizations and magazines who maintain a list of New Hampshire Farmers Markets, many with web sites for you to get updated information. I have included those links below.

The New Hampshire cities and towns that have known Farmers Markets include: Bedford, Bethlehem, Gorham, Canterbury, Claremont, Concord, Contoocook, Derry, Dover, Durham, Exeter, Franklin, Hanover, Henniker, Hillsborough, Jackson, Jaffrey, Keene, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lee, Lisbon, Littleton, Merrimack, Milford, Nashua, New Boston, New Ipswich, Newmarket, Newport, Penacook Village, Peterborough, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Rindge, Rochester, Salem, Somersworth, Tamworth, Wakefield, Warner, Washington, Weare, Wilmot, and Wolfeboro.
