The Face of Vera Althea Tryon aka Mrs. Harold M. Walker of Manchester NH (1892-1942)

An undated photograph of Vera Althea Tryon, probably taken at her 8th grade graduation circa xxxx in Manchester NH.

An undated photograph of Vera Althea Tryon, probably taken at her 8th grade graduation circa 1905 in Manchester NH.

Vera Althea Tryon stands frozen in time, with her hands clasped delicately around a diploma.  She wears a white, ruffled summer dress.  Her hair is pulled back, and tied with a large white silk bow. She wears elbow high white gloves.  Around her throat she wears a cameo necklace. Her clothing and accessories are typical at the turn of the 20th century.

This is probably a formal photograph of Vera’s eighth grade graduation (taken about 1905 when she would have been 13 years old) in Manchester, New Hampshire.  She grew up at 96 A Street where her family was still living in 1910.

Vera Althea Tryon was the oldest of two children of  George & Luella (Greene) Tryon. Her father was a clerk, having worked in a grocery store, and then later a furniture store in Manchester, New Hampshire.  In 1917 she married Harold Melvin Walker, a printer who worked his trade in Manchester, as a pressman in the printing office of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company.  They lived in mill housing–at 30 Payson Street (1932) but moved to 477 Canal Street (1937-1940).  By 1942 they removed to 528 Belmont Street in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Vera (Tryon) Walker died in July of 1942 at the age of 50.  She left behind a grieving husband and son. She is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen MA, beside other Tryon family members.

Thanks for this, it adds a little bit to my history. I was wondering where Clara deMoulpied fit in. Nice to see the Tryon connection as well, since she was a great great grandmother.

    • Janice Brown says:

So glad you found a connection Debby. That is why I write these stories so that hopefully people related can find their relatives.
